Educational Training Courses
The following leadership workshops are designed to inform and educate youth. Workshops have been developed and coordinated in consultation with area spiritual leaders, educators, athletic coaches and service providers. The summaries below give a brief outline of the topics discussed in each workshop. For more information please email w2w@will2win.org.
SCOPE AND SEQUENCE OF STUDENT LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP SESSIONS
Session 1: Developing a Winning Attitude
POTENTIAL This session will help the students discover who they are and the main influences that make their attitude what it is today. Activities will be centered on self-examination, commitment, and benefits of fulfilling purpose and will in their lives.
Session 2: Singleness of Purpose
DISCIPLINE This session will help students to understand the importance of standing firm in their beliefs and to be prepared for the peer pressures that may cause traps to form that will lead them to abort their plans and goals in life.
Session 3: Effective Communication
EXPRESSION This program will discuss communication techniques and active listening for both parents and students. Activities will be centered on a communication model, verbal communication, non-verbal communication and effective listening.
Session 4: Anger Management
CONTROL This program will inform students on how to control certain situations and learn how to use anger as an investigative tool to discover more about themselves. Activities will be centered on anger quiz and facts; am I angry, anger analysis and the importance of keeping their anger and emotions under control at all times.
Session 5: Job Readiness
ENTRUST This session will discuss the significance of education, time management and the importance for one to be prepared when the time comes to enter the work force. Activities will be centered on using what we have been given; time, talents, and treasures, to make the world around us a better place.
Session 6: Basic Budgeting
MANAGEMENT This session will discuss the significance of using their finances wisely, particularly in the areas of giving, saving, investing and credit. Activities will focus on setting up a budget, learning variance analysis and investment strategies.
Session 7: Gambling
TEMPTATION This workshop will test one’s knowledge about youth gambling and how to recognize the warning signs about addiction gambling. Activities will focus on terms and concepts; youth gambling; and action plan for youth gambling.
Session 8: Drugs and Alcohol
DECISION This will explain the negative effects of the drugs and alcohol used in today’s society. It will also identify the popular drugs used and examine prevention strategies and support systems.
Session 9: Racism
EQUALITY This session will discuss how racism and prejudice has been engrained into our society, how it adversely affects everyone, and why we must treat those around us as we want to be treated.
